• Pre-K follows the Montessori model of education
  • The classes are mixed ages: 4 and 5 year olds
  • Pre-K schedule options include:
    • 2-day class: Tuesday/Thursday (upon demand)
    • 3-day class: Monday/Wednesday/Friday
    • 4-day class: Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday
    • 5-day class: Monday through Friday
  • Each child is tracked independently and encouraged to work at their own pace academically, socially and developmentally
  • A monthly academic theme (unit of study) is taught each month and includes the following: “All about Me,” bones of the body, internal organs, nutrition, master artists, the universe, oceanography, zoology, botany, and more
  • Students memorize a Bible verse each month that ties in with their academic theme
  • Spanish instruction once a week
  • Special music teacher once a week
  • On-Campus field trips
  • Enrichment classes available (Spanish, beginning piano, clay, cooking, art, soccer, dance, sports, etc.)

CURRICULUM

Bible: Children learn Bible stories and memorize a Bible verse each month that ties in with their unit of study. They have a Bible lesson each morning and Chapel weekly.

Reading: Children are introduced to reading by first learning to identify letters and letter sounds. They progress at their own ability in learning to read phonetic words. Students are introduced to the Primary Phonics beginner readers, Bob books and Primary Phonics workbooks.

Mathematics: Students are introduced to mathematical concepts in a simple and fun manner. By working with concrete materials and then abstract symbols, a solid foundation is formed for later algebraic and geometric work. Like reading and language, each student progresses through these concepts at their own developmental rate.

Writing: Children are introduced to handwriting when they are developmentally ready using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. They are also taught correct pencil grip and letter formation.

Spanish: Students learn basic vocabulary, songs, and stories.

Art: Students learn process-based lessons with finger painting, easel painting, watercolors, tempera, and pastels. 

Practical Life Area: Children carry out familiar home activities such as sweeping, polishing, pouring and preparing foods to help develop coordination, concentration, patience. and hand dexterity.

Sensorial Area: Materials are designed to help children sharpen their senses. Each piece of material isolates one quality, such as color, weight, shape, size, texture, sound, smell or taste.
