K & Pre-School: Special Events

Back to School Family Picnic
An annual event held on the Horizon Prep campus before the beginning of each school year. All families enrolled at Horizon Prep and faculty are invited. This provides an opportunity for new and returning families to meet before the first day of school.

Back-to-School Night
Back-to-School Night is an adult only event held during the first month of school. Attendance is required. It is a valuable opportunity for parents to meet teachers, hear about teacher expectations for the upcoming school year, examine curriculum and see the classrooms and other school facilities. Parents will also meet other parents and be able to sign up to help with school activities.

School Pictures
School pictures are taken during the second month of school. On picture day students must wear the following:

  • Boys - White polo shirt with the Horizon Prep crest, dark gray shorts or pants and the black Horizon Prep sweater vest (a tie in the Horizon Prep school colors is optional).
  • Girls - Kindergarten: White shirt with the Horizon Prep crest displayed, a skirt in the Horizon Prep plaid and a black Horizon Prep sweater or sweater vest with the crest displayed.
  • Preschool: Preschoolers can wear their choice of school uniform pieces.

Open House
Open House is held annually in the spring. It is an informal get-together where students can show parents their work on display in the classrooms or in special exhibits.

Class Parties
Class parties and other special activities occur with the help of parent volunteers throughout the year. Younger siblings should not attend these activities unless they have received special permission from their teacher. Pets from home are not allowed.

Field Trips
Field Trips may be included during the year as an extension of the curriculum. Field trips are optional for preschool and Kindergarten. Most of our field trips are "on campus" field trips. In the event of an "off campus field trip, all students are to return a permission slip signed by their parent/guardian before participating in a field trip. There may be additional charges to students for admission and transportation for certain activities. Parents are usually asked to volunteer to help with transportation and supervision. Drivers will need to provide proof of auto insurance. Younger siblings may not accompany parents on field trips without special permission from the teacher.
