Dear Parents,

We are thrilled to have your family joining us for the

In Christ's love,

Cathy Towner

Tips for First Day Success
From Horizon Prep

Before School

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

F-FACE …remember to smile! Children pick up on your cues: Especially facialexpressions. Warm, relaxed smiles, translate to trust and peace for children.

I-IMAGINE …imagine and talk through the first day of school with your child: what the day might hold, where you will be while your child is at school, what will happen when you pick them up from school.

R-ROUTINE …establish a nighttime routine and a morning routine. Have everything laid out the night before: clothes, backpacks, lunches ready (even Mom & Dad’s cell phone and car keys).

S-SLEEP …be sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep: Early to bed, early to rise!

T-TIME…be on time—in the morning and afternoon. Give yourself extra time: extra time equals extra calm.

After School

KEEP IT REAL

R - REALISTIC …going off to preschool is not going off to College; however, you do want to set the tone for a positive school experience.

E – EXPECTATIONS …Try to set aside your expectations: Your child may be ambivalent at first. Let your child spread their wings and find the activities they enjoy most in class. They might surprise you.

A – ASK… “What did you learn today?” can make your child feel like they are being quizzed. Creative questions like, “Did anything silly happen today? What did you play on the playground?” can open dialogue.

L – LOVE…Remember to toss in extra doses of hugs and kisses! Starting school is exciting, but can be stressful. Everything is sweeter with extra love!
